| 8.8.03: Bravest fight house fire; meth lab suspected At 1151 hours, Maumelle Engine 1, Truck 1, Chief 501 and public safety officers responded to a report of a structure fire at 125 Oakridge Cove. Upon arrival, heavy fire was showing from the front of the home with the garage appearing to be fully involved. North Little Rock Engine 4 was requested to the scene for mutual aid. A blitz attack using Engine 1's deck gun was initiated. The deck gun knocked down the heaviest body of fire. Two 1.75" handlines were then pulled for containment and to extinguish fire which had spread to the attic area. The fire was contained to the garage, the attic and the area immediately surrounding the garage. However, the entire home suffered heat, smoke and/or water damage. Five of the six persons home when the fire began escaped without injury. An adult male resident received burns to his arms, face and back. The patient was transported to Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock by MEMS. No other civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. During the investigation phase of the incident, police and fire personnel found evidence of a possible methamphetamine manufacturing operation. The Little Rock Police Narcotics Unit was requested to the scene to assist Maumelle police with the investigation and clean-up. The adult female resident was arrested on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, maintaining a drug premises, possession of drug paraphernalia with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and manufacturing methamphetamine in the presence of minors. Her husband is expected to be arrested on the same charges. The initial loss estimate is $155,000 for the home and contents. |
