Fire Station 2 - 100 Millwood Circle

Fire Station 2 temporarily closed on July 22, 2010 due to the discovery of unhealthy mold spores. Following mold remediation and renovation, the station is expected to reopen in Spring 2011. Until then, both Engine 1 & Engine 2 respond from Fire Station 1 at 2000 Murphy Drive.

Fire Station 2 is located at 100 Millwood Circle at the intersection of Millwood Circle and Maumelle Boulevard. The station is the quarters for Engine Company 2 and houses Engine 2, Truck 1 and the department's Hazardous Materials Trailer.

Prior to March 2010, this facility served as the headquarters for both the Fire & Police Departments. This included living quarters for up to seven firefighters, a bay that contained every piece of fire apparatus, and offices for fire administration -- a cramped arrangement at best. In March 2010, the police department relocated all of their operations to a new station at 2002 Murphy Drive. The fire department then split with the Fire Chief, Fire Marshal, fire administration and Engine Company 1 moving into a new station at 2000 Murphy Drive.

Currently, Engine Company 2 occupies living quarters on the second floor of the building. The initial plan is to renovate the vacant police offices downstairs and convert them to new living quarters for the firefighters, which will allow for quicker response times. Engine Company 2 will continue to share the building with the Maumelle District Court. The eventual plan is to construct a new Fire Station 2 in a more strategic location near South Odom Blvd. and to move the courts into their own building near police department headquarters. No timetable exists for either of these projects.

Engine Bay
Fire Station 2's engine bay currently houses Engine 2, Truck 1 and the Hazardous Materials Trailer, which is owned by Pulaski County Emergency Management and operated by Maumelle firefighters. Sometime in 2010, Engine Company 2 will receive a new Smeal custom pumper and the current Engine 2, a 1996 Piece Quantum, will be renamed Engine 3 and relocated to Station 1.

When the building housed all of the fire department's apparatus, space was very limited even with a bay expansion constructed in Spring 2006 (photo below).

Living Quarters

The current living quarters, which include a kitchen, day room, work station and three bunk rooms, are where firefighters relax in the evening and prepare/eat their meals while on duty. The living quarters consist of space once occupied by a pair of one-bedroom apartments where chiefs and/or members of the Department of Public Safety lived early in the city's history.

The area was heavily remodeled in 2002 after many years of less-than-ideal living conditions. The renovations were carried out by Department of Public Works employees and Maumelle firefighters, which resulted in considerable savings to Maumelle taxpayers. Due to an increase in shift staffing, additional changes were made in 2004, when the department's training room was converted to a bunk room. The transition to staffing two companies in the single station required acquisition of the Fire Marshal's Office for use in the living quarters in fall 2008.

From Interstate 40: Take Exit 142. Drive south on Arkansas Hwy. 365 and turn onto Arkansas Hwy. 100 (Maumelle Boulevard) at first stop light. Turn right at third stop light (onto Millwood Circle). Our station will be on your left.

From Interstate 430: Take Exit 12. Drive west on Arkansas Hwy. 100 (Maumelle Boulevard). Turn left at the fourth stop light (onto Millwood Circle). Our station will be on your left.
