Millwood Circle Fire Station
Police & Fire Building
The Maumelle Fire Department is currently housed in the Police & Fire Building near the intersection of Maumelle Blvd. and Millwood Circle. At present, the department shares these cramped facilities with the Maumelle Police Department, the Maumelle Police & Fire Communications Center and the Maumelle District Court.

In early 2010, new facilities for the police and fire departments will be complete on Murphy Drive on the city's northside, which will allow both departments to better carry out their mission of protecting the citizens of Maumelle. Once the new facilities open, Fire Department Headquarters and Engine Company 1 will move to the new station located on corner of Murphy Drive and Union Court. The police department will move to a building adjacent to the new fire station.

Engine Company 2 will remain at 100 Millwood to serve the city's southside. They will continue to share the building with Maumelle District Court. The eventual plan is to construct a new station for Engine 2 in a more strategic location near South Odom Blvd. and to move the courts into their own facility near police department headquarters. No timetable exists for either of these projects.

Engine Bay
The station's engine bay is currently at capacity as it houses every piece of the department's firefighting apparatus -- Engine 1, Engine 2, Truck 1, Brush 1 and the Mobile Air Unit. In order to fit all of these pieces of equipment in the bay, a small expansion to one of the bays was constructed in Spring 2006 (photo below).

When Fire Station 1 is complete on Murphy Drive, the engine bay at Station 2 will be home to Engine 2 and Truck 1. It will also house a hazardous materials decontamination trailer belonging to the Pulaski County Office of Emergency Services but operated by the fire department.

Administrative Offices
The offices of the chief of the department and administrative assistant are housed in the Millwood Circle Fire Station. Both can be reached by phone at (501) 851-1337.

The office of the Fire Marshal was relocated in October 2008 to the City Hall complex at 550 Edgewood Drive due to space constraints. Fire Marshal John Payne oversees enforcement of the fire code, fire cause investigations and training of volunteer and career firefighters. His office is located in Suite 572 of City Hall and can be contacted at (501) 851-2784, Extension 249.

Living Quarters
[Living Quarters Photo Gallery]
The living quarters, which include a kitchen, day room, work station and three bunk rooms, are where firefighters relax in the evening and prepare/eat their meals while on duty. The living quarters consist of space once occupied by a pair of one-bedroom apartments where chiefs and/or members of the Department of Public Safety lived early in the city's history.

The area was heavily remodeled in 2002 after many years of less-than-ideal living conditions. The renovations were carried out by Department of Public Works employees and Maumelle firefighters, which resulted in considerable savings to Maumelle taxpayers. Due to an increase in shift staffing, additional changes were made in 2004, when the department's training room was converted to a bunk room. The transition to staffing two companies in the single station required acquisition of the Fire Marshal's Office for use in the living quarters in fall 2008.
