Brush
1 is a 2002 Ford F-350 XL SuperDuty. It is equipped with a Prime Manufacturing
skid unit that carries 200 gallons of water and 20 gallons of Class A foam.
Brush 1 has four pre-connected hose lines including a 50-foot section of
forestry line off the front bumper as well as a pair of forestry lines and
a 1.75" hose line off the rear.
Brush 1 has perhaps the most misleading name of any vehicle in the Maumelle
fleet as fewer than 15% of the calls it responded to in 2006 were brush fires.
Instead of being used exclusively to fight wildfires, Brush 1 is equipped
to handle a variety of functions. In addition to it's four-wheel drive ability
and its stock of wildfire hand tools, Brush 1 is equipped with self-contained
breathing air packs for use in structural firefighting as well as a fully-stocked
emergency medical bag. Brush 1 is also designed to tow the
Mobile Air Unit.
Brush 1 is typically not staffed by career firefighters. It may be cross-staffed
by members of Engine Company 1, however, for specific duties where Brush
1's capabilities are required. During most other times, Brush 1 is operated
by volunteer firefighters on an as-needed basis. |
